But I will tell you that the main problems of the movie come, as usual, from the very premise and the plot - not so much from the cheap visuals and uninterested stars.
From the very first time I heard the movie's premise, years ago, I knew it was wrong. It sounded like a B movie and I couldn't believe Willis was in it. Sending people to the past to get killed? Really?? Why?! Of all the things you can do with time-travel, you choose THIS? It just doesn't make sense. And it meant the script will be loaded with unnecessary explanations and complexities that are there only to try to justify the ridiculous premise and reek of desperation. That's exactly what happened.
Secondly, being a "looper" is the ugliest job possible. Who'd want to watch a story about the lowliest of lowlifes? You can not have such protagonist.
Thirdly, having to kill his old self was the only thing that had any sense and could work as a high concept. But being a writer myself, I automatically developed the basic plot, as I usually do, to see where it could go, and saw clearly that Rian Johnson had written himself into a corner. There was no way this story could be done: a young mafia guy has to kill his old self and has to decide what's right to do. Try it yourselves, if you know anything about writing, and you'll see there's no story there. Except maybe the obvious "the young gun has to abandon his duties and work with his old self so they both save themselves". But this is SO obvious it's almost boring.
Still, the trailers went with that. Then I thought if Johnson used this very basic plot to develop the characters - and with such star cast - this could work. Characters he can do (but no plots, obviously). And when I saw the ridiculous praise this was getting, I thought he'd done his job right - and went to see how exactly.
You know what happens later, if you've seen the movie. And if you haven't - DON'T, it's a waste. What happens is:
1. I was right the whole time
2. Johnson knew this was a very stupid premise, so he littered his narrative with stinking explanations
3. Johnson knew he can't get a story out of this
4. So he changed it mid-movie with the equally tired and boring "Will you kill baby Hitler" trope (NOT a spoiler!!)
5. He couldn't tie the two stories together, because they have nothing in common
6. So now you have the most broken and disjointed narrative possible
7. Furthermore destroyed by plot holes the size of Bruce Willis' bald spot, and unnecessary shifts in time and PoV, confusing the audience
8. Which happen when a writer dabbles in time-travel without having a tight theory how it works in his setting
9. So he piles one piece of BS upon the other, each one negating the previous
10. And makes his characters tell you on more than one occasion "Oh, don't bother thinking about the complexities of time travel, average audience member, it will fry your brain".
The insolence!
So that's what you have with Pooper. A LYING trailer and premise, which promise to do ONE (simple) thing right - and then don't even try, because the writer knows he can't do it. But that didn't stop him LYING about it. That's a crime in my book.
You have two very weak and boring HALF stories - never a whole one - taped at the middle point with... well, tape.
You have whole audiences laughing throughout most of the second half of the movie - and then leaving the theatre in grave silence, not able to believe what BS they've been just suckered into seeing.
Do NOT pay to see this movie! Do not believe the critics, believe the audiences! There is no single thing in it that is worth it. Very little action, laughably cheap effects, repulsive characters, uninterested no-chemistry actors, no suspense, no logic, no sense. You will not care about anyone, you'll just count the stupid monologues that come every five minutes - and wait for this torture to finish.
Catch it somewhere free, if you're just curious, you'll thank me later.
